I close my eyes and I am young again, innocent and eager. Nothing but a meek girl seeking her place amidst a cruel and sinful world. Nothing but a soft, child-like face with doll eyes and porcelain skin. Pink bows and dresses. Carousels and wooden horses. Joyous laughter and winter nights by the fire. I recall a boy with golden hair, brilliant blue eyes, and a radiant smile. I recall holding his hand and laughing mischievously as we crept through the vineyard after supper unbeknownst to our parents. I recall vague memories of a lovely woman with a warm and welcoming presence, my mother perhaps but I couldn't even remember her. Then those blissful summer nights by the ocean... my unruly locks whipping in the wind and the water on my skin. Where has my innocence gone? Where is my joy? Where is my childish excitement? I now find myself in a strange place void of all things lovely and pure. But I still hear the waves of the ocean and the careless laughter of a boy...and all I can say is Come back to me
