Upside down dog, paws to the sky
I will not scratch your tum.
You wiggle and you wriggle
And you poke me in the eye
As you clamber on and over me.
It's too early to be up
But this excitable pup
Does not tell the time.
Presented with gifts from as far away as downstairs
This dog, I suspect, has been staring at the biscuit tin,
Where the breakfast biscuits live.
So he, in his wisdom, has decided to give me
A sopping wet tennis ball
As part of my doggy wake up call
And it appears to be play time.
Or at the very least, chew my fingers time.
He huffs and he snuffs and with a nose in my ear
And a paw on my face I accept defeat and get up.
Tail wagging furiously,
'Oh I have missed you! Oh you have got up! I haven't seen you for hours!'
Says my furry friend.
I trudge downstairs, ignoring his jubilations.
I offer him a biscuit, but where is he now?
Curled up, nose under tail in his basket!
Waking up humans must be exhausting.
