The Light | 8

(read parts 1-7 first)

After just a day Sam was bored out of his skin. He had done literally nothing but hear Jonathan babble on about historic documents and his mothers 'amazing' adventures in the depths of London. Of course he had heard it all before.
The only thing good about his house was that was a floater. He had marvelled at the floating buildings when he was younger and soon began to develop an interest in magnetic power. Sam had found it hilarious when he mentioned to Jonathan that soon the government would have to take down the house as it cost too much to keep the electromagnet running during these times. The look on Jonathan's face made Sam go into hysterics.
Other than that sans day had been without amusement and the light began too fall or at least what there was of it. There were still distinctions between night and day despite the continuous darkness.
"Time to go to bed then Sammy boy."
"No it isn't! And don't call me 'Sammy boy'!"
"Well its dark you should be off to bed."
"My bed time is ten! It's six now!"
"Your mother said to do as I told."
And so, in disbelief, Sam found himself going up the stairs to go to bed. Of course he didn't go to sleep. He placed his ruby ring on a bedside table and sat on his bed playing on his latest Scroll, the 'SCR0LL X40'.
Sam began to get sleepy and was about to get ready for bed. The bed was very peculiar to him as it had four wooden support mechanisms holding it up and what was to slept on was made out of a squishy material much like a child's teddy bear. Sam found it quite discomforting to sleep on it and was just about to when there was a ring at the door.
He heard the clutter of movement from Jonathan downstairs. The man approached the door and opened it. There was a rush as men piled in.
Sam jumped out of brand peered down the stairs. He heard the shattering of a vase and then a heavy accented voice.
"Where is it!"
"where is what?" Jonathan replied startled.
"The key!"
"What key?!" he almost shouted back.
Sam looked down to see that he was clutching the ring and it's ruby was glowing a bright red.
"I don't know where it is!" suddenly more men crashed through the windows.
Sam looked behind him and saw that men had landed in the bedroom. His heart kept out of his chest with fright and he ran. He hurried down the stairs but was stopped dead in his tracks by a huge soldier dressed in black. A Russian flag was on his arm. The ring seemingly by accident slipped onto Sam's finger.
Sam did all that he could think of. He punched the soldier with the ring. It dug through the mans armour then fired him backwards in an explosion.
Sam looked at his hand. But then noticed the other soldiers. He ran for the door and barged his way out. He arrived outside. And then realised, it was a floater. The soldiers were on his tail. What should he do? What could he do?
He certainly couldn't wait for a bug.
He only saw one way out. And so he jumped.
