In my day( not too long ago) we didn't have television, we didn't have mobiles( red phone box, press button a), no computers, I pods, I pads etc. Obeyed our parents, respected teachers, a good slap was discipline not child abuse. We walked to school, what! Played games in the street, hopscotch, whip and top, etc. Never bored, we made our own fun. Now, kids won't walk to school, they have mobiles , computers etc and complain they are bored. Crime in the street because it's something to do. Maybe these are not the good old days. But then with all that's available old fashioned values and respect have gone as well. Parenting? Not always to blame, but where does it begin and end?
