I'd taken myself home.
I was a little annoyed with Lloyd, but he'd taken the time to explain that she was looking for me, just didn't have much time. He was the next best thing, and it was just unfortunate that she had to go just as I'd reappeared, moaning about my hand. He'd slapped my back, saying something along the lines of come on, don't be silly, blah blah. It was ok. I knew he wouldn't do that to me, he'd had chances before but never did he take the chance to ruin our friendship over a bit of gamesmanship.
But my hand was throbbing, so I made a big deal of it and told him I'd see him later. He just smiled his winning smile. A true friend smile.
I only lived a five minute walk away from the place, and it was a nice walk too. How could you ever get bored with a riverside walk, watching people walking in the sun, the kids playing and dangling home made fishing lines in the water. Magic.
Home was a one bed flat. First floor with a small balcony overlooking said river. Not exactly tidy, but never too messy. Most of the mess was my writing, which was pretty much occupying any spare table space. iPad and PC permanently on. I left it all behind me and got myself a beer from the fridge. Took it out to the balcony, breathed in the view and took a deep draught.
How could you be so daft? A girl you've only seen twice and you've let out the green eyed monster! I finished the beer and went back inside. Flopping on the sofa, I started to think about tonight. Marianne...
Get a grip man! I laid my head on a cushion. I was asleep before I knew it.
The phone rang. Shaking myself awake, I realised I'd been out of it for two hours. Oh, it'll only be Lloyd...
'Hello...'
'Hi, it's me, Marianne...'
'Oh...Oh! Hi,hi Marianne! Sorry, I was sleeping...'
I was so embarrassed...
Politely, she chuckled.
'Just making sure, you will be in the place tonight, won't you?'
This one little sentence put all my doubts about her, Lloyd, everything, behind me. I was elated. But you must be cool, grasshopper...
'Lloyd told me about your accident. How's the hand?'
'Oh that. It's nothing... Just a cut, really. Thanks, though... Yes, yes I'll be there.'
Of course I was gonna be there!
'Shall we say about nine?'
'Perfect,' I said. 'Nine would be just fine. I'll see you there Marianne. '
'Great! Well, I've got to go, couple of things to do...'
I could hear that bloody mobile going off in the background...
'Ok, Marianne, I'll see you there, bye now...'
And she was gone.
Nine my arse! I'd be there before that, getting a few limeless mexicalis in before the main event! Hmmm there's that schoolboy again...
I took myself off to the shower, grinning all the way.
Hold on, how did she have my number?
I mean she gave me hers, but I never...
Lloyd. That's how she got it. Well done old boy. Just as I thought you really were a bastard!
All was well. I smiled, and resumed my trip to the bathroom, grinning again.
Couple of hours, and I'd be in the place. Again, yes, but this time it didn't matter. She'd be there, and it was going to be great.
Wasn't it?
