I know I can't say much but why shorten words!?
I mean yeah they're shorter but we're English so why don't we use the English dictionary and language instead of LOL and BTW! I've even herd people say lol out loud instead of laughing... Wow we live in a messed up world!

People shortened words like 'lol' 'brb' and 'gtg' to make it easier and faster to text people. It makes sense. And I suppose it would be annoying to text 'hahahahhaa!' back every time you thought something was funny. (tho I do do that a lot)
@ZephyrForza text talk (such as lol, brb, gtg, ikr, idk, etc) all came about because of the old phones with 3/4 letters per button; it made it easier to write texts (like you said) :3
But yeah, I sometimes say lol instead of laughing... Or I laugh then say lol... I tend to do it only cos sometimes a laugh can sound forced xD
