'I'm home.' I called out to the empty hallway as I kicked my shoes off and dropped my bag to the floor. A gorgeous smell wafted from the kitchen, which could only mean one thing. 'grandma' I screeched happily throwing myself into her arms. She put down the wooden spoon that she had been holding and wrapped her arms around me. She pulled back and brushed the hair out of my face. 'oh Amelie, you've grown so much.' she said smiling and kissing me on the nose. 'your so beautiful, just like your mother.' she smiled. Mum groaned as she walked in with a pile of washing 'yeah yeah.' mum teased, 'she's got all the boys tripping over her at school.' This time I groaned, 'no I don't mum.' I grumbled. She smiled and padded over to the washing machine, 'you do you just don't notice it.' she said quietly.
I heard footsteps thundering down the hallway, my younger brother launched himself at our grandma, Jamie was only fifteen but had our parents dark hair and my mums glittering green eyes. He looked like he had just stepped out of a model agency but despite his good looks he was surprisingly modest. He didn't believe us when we told him he was handsome, but I knew that soon I would have be fighting the girls off him, he was my baby brother and I felt fiercely protective of him.
I wandered upstairs into my bedroom, it was simply decorated as I loved the minimalistic, airy look. I flopped down on my bed and pulled out my mobile. I had several texts from my boyfriend, Josh. All of them to do with how excited he was to spend the whole summer with me and how he was looking forward to taking me to the end of year party. I sighed happily at his display of affection and sent him back multiple kisses.
I ran downstairs as my grandma called up saying dinner was ready. She had cooked me spaghetti bolognese which she knew was my favorite, as she seasoned it with herbs and added chili to give it a kick. Dad came home halfway through dinner, 'sorry I got held up at work.' he said apologetically. Mum tilted her head back and he kissed her gently. It was uplifting to see that true love did exist in the world, they had been through hell and back together and even after twenty years of marriage they still were as in love with each other as the day the first met. I couldn't wait to find the person who made my eyes light up just like mums did when she was with dad.
