Praying For Daybreak

Hunched in the corner of my room, alone and afraid, screams of terror echo in the hall, the feeding frenzy at nightfall.

The evil moves from room to room, seeking innocence to consume, another child's scream fills the air, horror frozen in his lifeless stare.

Daybreak's light shines through the window, yet screams still persist, stuck and helpless, with no means to resist.

At last the sound of death ceases, quiet draws witness to this fact, I stand and proceed to the door, prepared to quickly react.

A glance in the hall reveals nothing to behold, was this all a dream, just the sting of winter's cold?

No gruesome sights, everything in perfect order, I continue to move forward, greeted by another corridor.

Still blackness fills this hall, too dark for my eyes to see, a spark greets the strike of a match, the darkness begins to flee.

Started writing poetry officially in 1991, enjoy reading Edgar Allen Poe, reading and dissecting the Holy Bible, and listening to beautiful/inspiring people. Age has no bearing on creativity. Some of the most beautiful things come from those of much lesser age and life experiences. So listen to those young people!
