Can you balance me upon your knee?
Then lay me down to set me free?
Play with me now or let me be
Let my soul be with freedom please
A thousand headstones all carved in white
Cracks appear under ultraviolet light
Graveyard digger digs deeper in the moonlight
The shadows dance but they're out of sight
I fell down hard but rose up again
Climbing higher with some good friends
We talked about the good old days
With wine and time where memories played
Was it you, with me, and them, over there
Together at youth with a chilling dare?
Did anyone notice or even stop to care
Why the graveyard wasn't empty and bare?
We closed our eyes and made a wish upon a girl
We opened them to the sight of a daunting world
Nobody left here now for us
Just the remains of some lovers oxidised lust
We moved out of the country and back to the town
Bright lights burned the soul of a clown
But we rode the crest of a bigger sound
Which thundered around us and lit up the ground
As we stumbled into another new war
Someone else's life was worse for sure
We sympathised and felt all their pain
As the ash cloud storm came in the summer rain
"Capture the madmen at all costs!!"
Came the cry from someone else's boss
"Sir, there's land-mines out in the fields
My legs are weary and my visions not healed"
I got lifted ten feet up in the air
On the way down I nearly lost all my hair
Found some sprouting in nose and ears
I'm too young to relive all your religions fears
The boss got the sack on the way to the grave
He was awarded a medal for us being brave
His headstone is carved by another slave
Who kneeled beside the moonlight and prayed
Lord I fell down by a burning bush
Parted the waves in a muddy brook
Breathed life into a hibernating hamster
Saved a child from getting run over
Walked on some icy frozen water
God, I even made my own perfect daughter
God I don't want to be a lucky one
I want to go out in a blaze of fun
Feel the heat from the rays of the sun
Enjoy my time until my dreams are done
Lord, keep me safe and of sound mind
Forgive me now of my hollow crimes
Allow me to rest, in peace, with time
So they can carve my name in white and say I was kind
