"There will be NO cowards in my regiment!
We will fight to the death and fight as honourable gentlemen.
Should any of you die in this hell to which we are about to experience,
Know that god is on our side and awaits us in heaven!
If a brother should fall, don't turn back, keep going, don't look back!
Ready yourselves lads,
the time has now come for our attack....."
"FIX BAYONETS!! WHEN YOU GO OVER. DO NOT TURN BACK. KEEP GOING......KEEP GOING LADS"
".....CHARGE!!"
Good God, save us from this awful fate,
I'm far too young to witness your pearly gates.
Guide me safely and my brothers tonight,
No mans land is no place for us to die,
For I have a woman waiting on the other side
Of this battle and of this war,
She loves me now and I need her more.
Here we go now, up over the top,
The rats have scattered but the rain won't stop.
Even the Sarg has developed bad trench foot,
But nothing will stop the tough old Scot.
1 dead. 2 dead. 3 dead. 4
Shells rain down and kill lots more.
5 dead. 6 dead. 7 dead. 8
Sarg got blown up by a hand grenade.
9 dead. 10 dead. 11 dead. 12
Good God get me out of this living hell.
The screams. The mud, blood and guts.
The fear we feel with eyes wide, not shut.
We chase down the wounded over mounds of flesh,
Who scream and plead in fear I guess,
"Gott haben Gnade fΓΌr meine SΓΌnden"
Then we cry in silence, all of a sudden.
And so we march on....
....onwards and upwards to the next place of fear.
Oh God, what the hell am I doing here?
