Tick

They tell you to take it day by day but
At some points that becomes overwhelming so
Then you have to break it down further into
Hours or even
Minutes.

Although I get better at this everyday,
Carrying heavy bottles of water home and fixing my sad one person
Washing and
Dinner
And
Changing light bulbs
And
Sleeping
And trying not to get sucked into the abyss hiding in every quiet moment,
Sometimes I suddenly become aware of the great space
Around me and the many hundreds and hundreds of miles between
Me
And everyone else I love.

Time is my greatest ally, speeding me back to love and comfort
But at once it's my enemy,
Relentlessly marching
Onwards
Onwards
Ripping empty days from my shaking hands and castigating me
For doing nothing
At all
With my precious hours.

They tell you to take it day by day but
At some points that becomes overwhelming so
Then you have to break it down
And down
And down
And down
