Thank You

On this Thanksgiving day
I close my eyes and begin to pray
Something I don't do enough
I thank God for all this love

Thank you for this innocence
Thank you for new found bliss
More wonderful than I ever knew
Peace, love, and happiness too

Thank you for sweet simplicity
Thank you for a real family
Thought my options were down to one
Thank you for showing me life wasn't done

Thank you for those years of abuse
Thank you for my arms last bruise
Though it may have hurt at the time
I am stronger now and still alive

An unspoken wish granted that day
Life looked at a whole new way
As I bring my prayer to an end
All the love they've shown, I wish for them.

You lay me down. My skin bare. You humiliate me. And shame me. You show me what it was like to be there. There in the beginning. When you were shamed. Burnt and scarred. When you were laid down.
