A small child, young, naive, she dreams and she hopes
Her parents will protect , but she barely copes
As Dad gets drunk and angry, he'll be violent once more
He comes home late, drives the car through the garage door
Mum whispers to child, an attempt to protect
"Stay in your room", before she gets kicked
He enters the house with rage, anger and fury
When he finds trouble there's no trial, judge or jury
Shouting and screaming in another part of the house
She stays in her room, as quiet as a mouse
Shout she help? Should she not? Mum told her to stay
So she hides in her bed, hopes it will all go away
Now she is grown, with a family, children to her name
The pattern repeats, but is not quite the same
The beating, the screaming, kids banished to their room
Police called and friends rally, to clear out the gloom
Now three of them growing and learning to be
Six months later there is little to remember of he
There's friendship, love and laughter in the house where they live
The future is bright, each has so much to give.
