Lit up in the night sky
We watch you float away
Symbolising the death of one
But never gone away
A memory of so long ago
A child I'd never known
I stood in the doorway
The lanterns floating away
They had all known you
Just me the one not to
But part of you in me
Through her and the things she did see
The way she told me of how you used to be
How she missed you indefinitely
And how we are far, despite it all
I know she misses you
And always will too
This poem is dedicated to an old friend's little brother, who was taken from them too early. Last year, on his anniversary, we set off lanterns for him.
