All Things

I wasn't very old when I learnt a valuable lesson.
Better to be true to a few,than trying to please a legion.

My mother told me many things and most I still hold dear.
"You can't be all things to everyone" she whispered in my ear.
I didn't understand at first but now I think it's clear.

Different people want different things and some just want it all

To please each individual you are heading for a fall.

You will start to compromise and then to tell some lies

Risk true loyalties, to pander to a friendly disguise.

No, stick with who you are and be thankful that it's enough

To be best friends with some, even when times are rough.

They will love you when you're funny
Comfort you when you cry
They will not care if you've no money
Miss you when saying goodbye.

Do not sacrifice these friendships just to add a couple more

Don't try to please them all it becomes a weighty chore

With best intentions, trying to please them all ends up pleasing none

It will end up looking fake and even loyal friends will feel that they've been done.

Friend

Since my best friend turns to hate me, I started to contemplate about "friendship". We cannot live without a friend. Yet, I think it may take you a life to find who your true friends are.

intelligent?

Do you think it is difficult to say who is intelligent and who not. First of all, how much money you earn sais nothing. What school you've attended, too.

I really love this and can relate to this...it's a wonderful, open and honest write...your mum spoke wise words...❀❀❀❀❀

@misslittleDHP yes she does πŸ‘ ty 😊 I guess what she/I is trying to get at is that it's nice to be nice.. But if someone changes themselves frequently to please others they look either weak and insecure (at best) or untrustworthy and manipulative (at worst)..

Such wise words! πŸ’šπŸ’šπŸ’š

Very wise and true. πŸ’—

@naaviie ty.. I'm always looking at things my mum has done/said or still does/ says and thinking how wise it was!

@eddie12309 @sjw thanks peeps 😊

Sound advice, unless you are a politician, of course, in which case you have no friends except the money falling into the campaign chest, everyone knows you're fake, but if you'renot all things to all people all the time, you're nobody at all.

Brilliant advice!! Just by being ourselves others will love and like us for it, don't compromise or sell your soul to please others, being honest and true to oneself is much more rewarding!! Great message mate πŸ‘

Nothing beats mothers advice, great poemπŸ‘πŸ‘

@Burrfoot so very true

Wise wise words indeed and written beAutifully πŸ˜ƒ

Mothers are wise women indeed. This piece reminds me of the Aesop fable about the bat who couldn't decide if he belonged with the king of the beasts or the king of the air. Tried to work for both sides. Nobody won. Well worth a read :)

Just wonderful πŸ‘πŸ˜ŒπŸ˜˜
