It's been you and me for many a year
It's time for your wings to unfold, I fear.
I nursed you and feed you and taught you to walk
Was there when you giggled and started to talk.
Watched with pride as you found your feet
Making friends with all the new people you meet.
I swore an oath to protect you right from the start
I was there to help mend your first broken heart.
No matter how big that you grow

For you there's nothing I wouldn't do
To take away your pain when you're feeling blue.
You have her eyes and share part of her soul
She watches over us as life takes its toll.
I know it's hard to miss what you never had
But when her love was missing it made you sad.
You're like her in so many ways
You're beauty and spirit brighten so many days.
The pain that I felt when you finally asked
And I had to explain how your mother had passed.
She will be waiting for me and then you
To show us the next chapter, I know it's true
Never be scared to follow your dreams
Keep your head high as you sail down life's streams.
Walk tall and see all your hopes through
Remember dad and mum love you and are so proud of all that you do.
