Reading through the posts I came to realise something.
What makes Opuss and creative writing so special is that wether reading or writing, the subjects we can explore are only limited by our imagination.
When reading an Opuss, we can either learn something of the author or learn something of the issues they raise, or share a little smile. Be it prose or poem, blog or banter, a thought process has occurred and that provokes a thought process in the reader, to understand and feel what is being portrayed.
Both writer and reader can put themselves into the shoes of another and try to feel what they feel. Empathy is a fast track to peace and this is what creative writing teaches and encourages.
This is Opuss at its best.
I don't want folk to take what I'm now going to say the wrong way. I have commented on many posts sticking up for our right to post tweet type slogans or status remarks.
I think, because Opuss has only maybe 100 or so regular posters it becomes addictive to climb ranks by posting endless bits of quotes and two word nonsense. If they were posted on twitter it would be lost in the sea of the mundane, whereas on here it can result in a high rank. I can imagine it probably feels good, if thats your goal, to say I'm now rank x or climbed x spots.
I have nothing against it per se, nor quotes or jokes. What saddens me is when the output becomes almost exclusively this type.
It doesn't annoy me as such, I just scroll on by. But where is the challenge for writer or reader? It is so rewarding to go through a thought process, explore feelings and emotions or make someone laugh and to know someone understood and enjoyed what you created.
So I challenge all of you to challenge yourself. Read and be read. Take a pride in your work, make it worthwhile, even the silly stuff.
