He knocked on my door one stormy night,
Wanted shelter, warmth and light.
'Pardon madam I'm sorry to bother you,
I saw the light on and hoped I'd get through
All that rain was making it hard to see,
Could you spare a room for the night for me?'
The stranger tipped his hat he was so polite,
How could I refuse to help him for one night?
So I opened the door and welcomed him in,
Lit up the fire and said with a grin
'what is your name and what brings you here?
This house is hidden from town, it's not very near'
He tipped his hat once again
'I wanted to get out of the rain,
My name is Jed and I got lost on the way,
I saw your light on and wondered if I could stay'
'Of course! That's no problem at all,
I have a spare room just across the hall'
I eyed him from head to toe,
He was handsome, polite and smart you know,
'Jed, would you like to eat?
I can see if I can fix you a treat'
He smiled and took both my hands in his,
'I'm sorry I missed your name miss?'
I blushed and answered,
'My name is Jane, I'm glad you are here Jed out of that rain'
I went to walk away when he turned and called 'miss?'
Then he pulled me in for a long, gentle kiss.
The fire inside me burned and spat,
All for this stranger in a hat!
He slowly undressed me and caressed my face,
And told me he'd want me all over the place,
I laid him down on the floor,
And ran over to put a lock on the door,
We made love for hours in front of that fire,
As we burned with passion and desire.
I wondered if this time I should tell him his tale,
Finally let him go, this wonderful male.
He looked at me with eyes so perfect and blue,
'Jane, thank you for this night with you'
The tears built up and poured down my cheek,
I'd been building up to tell him this all week.
'Jed, there is something you should know,
You started coming here a year ago..'
He looked confused as he ruffled his hair,
'But that's impossible!' he said and sat on the chair.
'Every time there's a storm You search through the night, until you find somewhere to stay that feels right'
He held his hand against his head,
And listened to me tell him that he was dead.
'you died out here a year ago, on a stormy night and had nowhere to go,
The rain was heavy just like now,
And lightening struck a tree, a bough,
It fell and landed straight on your head,
I found you out there while you bled and bled,
Then your spirit came to me, drawn like a moth to light,
The same as it did every stormy night.
I wished that I could tell you and asked for help from above,
But, I couldn't let go because I'd fallen in love.
So every time the weather is bad,
I wait for your knock and feel so sad.'
He stood and held me so close to his chest,
'Thank you Jane, now I can rest'
He put on his clothes and headed to the door,
As I crouched and cried on the floor.
'I will always be here for you beautiful Jane,
And you will never be alone in the rain'
He walked down my path and saw a bright light,
But he turned from it and walked into the night.
