Nick and I were laying in bed until we heard a knock at the door.
"I'll get it." Nick said as he got off of the bed.
"Ok." I yawned tiredly. I was shocked at what I saw. Mom (my second Mom) walked in through the door.
"Oh my gosh. Are you guys ok?! How are you?! How is the baby?!" She ranted.
"We are fine." I smiled.
"That's fantastic." She smiled back.
"Mom, I think you need to go." Nick said in a harsh voice.
"What? Why?" I asked Nick.
"You don't need any stress." Nick said, worried.
"It's not going to cause me any stress. I'm fine." I reassured him.
"I have good news!" Mom said excitedly, intruding our conversation.
"What?" I asked.
"I moved out."
"What?!" Nick said shocked.
"Huh?" I said confused.
"When Annie got pregnant, I wanted to help but, Dad wouldn't let me. He stalked me around to make sure I didn't come over here. He started to get abusive. He gave me a black eye and I have bruises all over my body. I moved out." Mom started to tear up at the end. I look at her eye just now noticing the light black ring around her right eye. I also saw little bruises all over her arms.
"Mom...." Nick whispered.
"Oh my gosh." I said. I could feel the tears welling up in my eyes until I finally just burst. I was shaking and sobbing, how could anyone do that to such a poor sweet woman?!
"I'm so sorry. I didn't know. Wow, I can't believe him." Nick said.
"I know." Mom whispered.
"I'm going to do something about this. We can't just let him get away with it." Nick said angrily. I continued sobbing and also shaking repeatedly.
"No...He will hurt me again." Mom said.
"Not if I'm here to protect you." Nick said.
"Move in with us." I volunteered after my cries stopped.
"No, I actually already have a house."
"Where?" Nick asked.
"About 20 minutes away from here, in a little apartment." She said.
"Well, are you ok?" I asked.
"You would think I would say yes because I'm bad at expressing my feelings but no, I'm not ok." She said. I walked over to her awkwardly because I was starting to get big and wrapped my arms around her into a tight embrace. I let go after a while and she looked a little better.
"Mom, I'm going to do something about this, this is crazy." Nick said.
"No son, don't. I should get going." Mom said softly.
"No don't go yet." I whimpered.
"Yeah I need too." She said as she walked out the front door. I cuddled up on the bed that night and fell asleep with Nick holding me in a tight protective embrace.
