Claire screamed. So did Astrid. Noel dramatically collapsed on the ground. The cold was already getting under my skin. All the buildings were white and blue and we could already hear the sound of ice setting in.
I was surprised that I didn't react at all, I just stared up at the cargo plane as the snake like pipes slithered into the the cargo and the plane flew away.
It had large glass windows and I caught a slight glimpse of a silhouette against the window.
It was shaped like a human man with a strong build.
But he had a tail.
Not a curvy one like a monkey, but a full bushy on like a squirrels...but larger.
I rubbed my eyes, and it was gone.
I wondered if it was my insanity finally sinking in...but it looked so real.
The Empire State Building was like a large frozen knife, pointed with a handle, waiting for a giant to reach down and murder someone with it.
Then I noticed the ice from the buildings seeping down the walls and into the floor, freezing that too. It was spreading.
Astrid and Claire rushed over to Noel to pick him up before he froze over.
Then it came to my realisation that is was frozen. Not with ice, just that I couldn't move from shock. My mouth was gawked open and I couldn't, wouldn't, blink.
'Close your mouth, you'll catch a fly.' Claire came over, closed my mouth and tilted my head down.
'Noel?' I asked.
'Astrid's trying to wake sleeping beauty. Come on, we have to check on the wareh- hospital, sorry.' She said. Claire was right, we had to check on the hospital.
I looked behind me, and as Claire had said, Astrid was trying to wake up Noel. Astrid made a gesture that meant, 'Go own.'
So I followed Claire back to the hospital.
'Did you see it?' Clair asked.
'See what?' I replied.
'Squirrel man. The man with the squirrel tail. Creepy stuff huh?'
So, I thought, I'm not insane.
'Yeh. Creepy stuff.'
The rest of the walk was in silence, until Claire put her head on my shoulder complaining she was to tired and needed something to rest her head on.
The cold was turning my hands and ears red.
We could still hear the ice setting in and we could hear it coming up behind us.
'I'm scared. And cold. And tired. And I have a stupid headache. But I'm mostly cold.' Claire said, her black hair tipped with ice.
'Me too, me too.' I replied.
Some time later I could hear Claire faintly snoring and I was letting my eyes drop, and next thing I knew, I was on the cold ground with Claire on top of me, both of us asleep.
