I've learned to walk
With my head held high,
You told me I'm special
And you taught me why:
I laugh at nothing and everything,
With a smile on my face,
Don't treat work as a contest,
Or treat life as a race,
Strive to be ever better,
But know I'm not best,
Content that I'll never
Fit in with the rest,
Always try to learn more,
Something new each day,
Let people go even though
My heart wants them to stay,
Love fiercely and deeply,
Treat friends with great care,
Make jokes when I'm nervous,
Shyly tousle my hair,
Obsess over books and movies,
Love music too much,
Moan when you kiss me,
Tremble at your touch,
I break all the rules,
Irrational and wild,
Playful and silly,
With eyes of a child.
You took all my flaws,
Imperfections and fears,
Erased the abuse
I'd received over the years,
Opened my eyes so
I could finally see,
A hundred reasons why
I should be proud to be me.
