He handed the ring box over to the kindly woman behind the counter. Her smile dropped when she opened the box, revealing a simple, yet beautiful engagement ring.
"You can't give this to charity," she exclaimed, holding the box towards him. The diamond sparkled like a captured tear. "Don't you have a special lady to give this to?"
He stared at the floor, unable to look at the ring any longer. The shop attendant gasped, a hand shooting to her mouth.
"Oh, I'm so sorry," she sighed, snapping the box shut. "I'm so sorry."
