The Vanity Of Truth

The truth is vain
You can try
To shift the blame
Or tell a white lie?

Can you colour lies?
Can you tell the truth?
See it in your eyes?
Maybe it's from youth?

Any gender, any age
Can believe it untrue
Not trapped in the cage
Not all, maybe just a few,

Say it, say I never lie
Who do you betray?
Let a piece of you die
With all the lies you say,

I love you, I hate you
Let's be together, forever
I love you too, I hate you too
We will never part, not ever,

Truth and lies
Both the same
Causing the cries
There both vain,

Try not to lie
But the truth is vain
What? When? Why?
It's just part of the brain,

I know the truth is vain
Just like lies told and taught
Ironically both we all retain
Are they only lies if you get caught?

Ashamed, but I try
Deny it, all of you do
But I know even I lie
But at least I know that's true....
