We're sitting in the hospital waiting room, Leeann running in circles around the coffee table in front of us. They're finding a psychiatrist for her at the moment, so they can evaluate her for her alleged "bipolar disorder" I don't think she has it, maybe the violent outbursts are a side effect from how she's been raised. I mean, the guys she lives with kill for a living, and she's probably not very sheltered from that. "Leeann Daniels," a nurse says, I take Leeann's hand and we walk through the doors, following the woman. (Late 20's, early 30's I'd guess). We're taken to another waiting room with toys in it this time. Leeann smiles and starts playing, and a woman wearing jeans, a t-shirt and sneakers opens the door, "Hi, I'm Dr. Trichowski, and Ive been informed of the...accusations made towards Leeann, she can come in now." Leeann looks up and runs behind me. "Don't know her," she whispers to me, not taking her eyes off the Doctor. "It's ok, Leeann, this lady's going to help you make friends," Leeann suddenly smiles, "You'll make the other kids like me?" "I'll help you make them like you," she corrects. Leeann nods and follows Dr. Trichowski into her room. I look around the waiting area, kid-friendly would be an understatement. It's more like "anyone over 7 would want to shoot themselves in here" But Leeann needs to be comfortable here, it she really does need psychological help that is. I won't believe it until Dr. T tells me it's true. Kyle gets up and sits next to me, probably noticing my nervousness, "Weird room right?" He asks, looking at the intensely bright colors and animated characters. "Kid-friendly, that's all," I reply quietly, the teddy bears are starting to freak me out with those eyes though. An hour goes by, then 2 before Leeann finally comes skipping out of Dr. T's office, who looks horror stricken. "so? What's the verdict? Is she bipolar?" Dr. T shakes nods, "But not only is she bipolar, she shows symptoms of schizophrenia as well. It's normal for a child to have imaginary friends at her age, but what concerned me was when she said they told her to cut the throat of one of her classmates, she said she couldn't do it, and her imaginary friend got angry with her. But imaginary people can't hurt her, so all she got was yelling," Leeann starts humming pleasantly and playing with blocks next to Kyle. "I see, so what can I do for her?" "I've written down two prescriptions for you. One for bipolar 2 and one for schizophrenia. They're free today." I thank her and we go to the pharmacy, I can't believe Leeann's bipolar and schizophrenic. Aren't those hereditary? Does that me or Kyle has one or both of those too? She couldn't have just developed it on her own right? She's 5. Well..however it happened, it happened, and no matter what, I'm going to help her lead as normal a life as she can.
