The Empty Chair

A table for five,
Became a table for four.
My dearest friend,
Dines with us no more.
Stolen away,
Ahead of his years,
Battled his illness,
Demanded no tears.
Rejoiced in his friendship,
His smile lit the room.
I now walk alone,
To tender his tomb.
Memories are often,
I miss his advice.
A king not forgotten,
So wise and so nice.
His throne is still with me,
I must not despair,
To me a reminder,
Of the now empty chair.
