The Bouthswer Hunt Part I

I ran as fast as I could. I couldn't catch my breath, I felt like I was going to pass out. I looked back to see if they were still following me. They were.
As I was still looking back, I tripped on a large root sticking out of the ground. I let out a faint scream, but I had to get up and keep running for my life. They were really gaining on me now. I was so scared. I had to lose them. But how?
I got it! I jerked left, lost them in the giant pine trees, and dashed behind some bushes. I had to keep quiet but I couldn't help my heavy breathing. I had been running for nearly a half hour, and I'm just lucky to be alive.
I could here some men shouting in their German accents, "Where is the girl? We must find her and track down her father! None of the Bouthswers family shall live!"
I was much scared for my life. I had to wait and couldn't move a muscle until the frightening men walked away. Then, I ran for my small house, hidden away in the depths of the woods. There is the only place I would be safe.
My house is behind a large mountain, so it is hidden from the village guards. No one would dare to go past this mountain, because of the foolish tales people tell. Many women would chatter to their silly friends the untrue tales of Heinesmount woods.
"I heard there are trolls dwelling beyond the mountains," people would say, or, "If you go past those mountains you'll be takin away by devilish monsters and be turned into vampires and wolves."
The ridiculous things people come up with really amazes me.
As I finally approached my house, I swung the door open and ran towards my father. "Oh Father, I'm so sorry! Please forgive me," I pleaded.
"Abigail, where have you been? I was worried sick! You could've been killed!" My father cared about me very much. That's why I love him, no matter what he does.
"Father, I'm sorry! I was just trying to hunt some food for us because I knew our rations wouldn't last us a week more."
"Oh Abigail, I know you're just trying to help, and I forgive you, but remember, you're just a young girl. You can't be out there, for I don't know what horrifying things will happen to you. Now tell me exactly what happened."
I explained to him what had happened in the woods. How I shot my arrow towards a bird, how the bird landed in front of the guards carriage, about how they looked up, saw me, yelled and started charging towards me, and how I ran for my dear life.
The look on Father's face was frightening. I should've never left the house, for now I have exposed us more and the Rothsmer Village guards have a better sense of where we are hiding. I feel ashamed about what I had done.
My father hugged me and sent me to my room. While I was in my room I took out the picture of my mother that I keep in the button-up pocket of my jacket. I kissed the picture and laid on my cold bed, and took a short nap while clenching the picture in my arms against my chest.
My mother was captured nearly three years ago. She was killed right before my eyes. Mother was just out collecting sticks and branches for a fire to warm us, and I hid behind a wide tree, watching her gracefulness. I always wish I would grow up to look just like my beautiful mother. As she bent over to pick up a branch, I heard some guards scream, "Aye! There's a Bouthswer! KILL HER NOW!" And before my mother could even bat an eyelash she had an arrow right through her chest.
It was a truly horrifying sight for a girl as young as nine-years-old. I wanted to run to my mother but the guards came closer and took her body away. I had to stay hidden, or else I would've been killed too.
It's amazing how my father and I have managed to stay hidden for three years now. But I think that three year streak will soon end if Father doesn't find a way to escape these woods without being seen of recognized.
If only my father hadn't done those horrible things that got us into this mess in the first place...
