The Wardens: Prologue

The woods were dark and dank. Huge pine trees speared into the air everywhere you looked. The floor was coated in spiky pine needles making it uncomfy to sit or lie on. The hooded man looked up from the patch of mud he had been closely observing. His companion, also cloaked, looked over at him. "Found anything Yoi?" He said addressing the other man roughly, they didn't get on. "Yes, these tracks. They point north west." Yoi looked up at that direction as he spoke. "Which is why we head that way." He gestures in the opposite direction to the way the tracks were leading. Yoi stood from his crouch and whistled to his horse. A huge black stallion as dark as night. Yoi mounted and the other man followed suit on his horse, a bay coloured horse smaller than Yoi's. They set off south east, ridding at an incredible pace through the trees. Soon they began to hear groans of pain accompanied by a steady growling. Soon they drew near enough to make out the unmistakable sound of a body being dragged over rocky ground. Yoi knew what was coming, he could do nothing to stop it. His horse left the trees and there infront of him was his worst nightmare. A massive bear at least twice the size of a normal bear was dragging its catch along behind it, face down in the mud. The body hit a rock and flipped over. Yoi looked down for the third time that week into the dying face of his father. Lips pale, cheek bones drawn and eyes sunken. Blood steadily drooled from the corner of his mouth. The bear snapped round to face him. It roared.
Yoi woke from the nightmare. His breathing heavy and drawn. He shivered at the thought of the bear that killed his father. He knew one thing. He wanted revenge.
