Many moons ago I met a girl called Time,
We got drunk together on cheap red wine,
She told me she loved me and could make Pain disappear,
So I shacked up with her, but made it clear,
That I didn't want to marry her,
Because, I feared,
My heart lay elsewhere,
With someone so dear.
So Time stroked my head,
And took me to bed,
Keeping me there, forever.
'I'll make you forget', she whispered, and said;
'I am your Past, Present, and Future'
The years rolled on by,
Two children we spied,
And Devotion crept into my life.
So here we are now,
Time by my side,
But still I do not call her my wife.
For Time is a great healer,
She can dull Memory enough,
And stack your days with Duty,
But some nights I still see Her,
My distant True Love.
And it is with her I still remember Life's beauty.
