Lamplight

I walk amid the lamplight
Of these quiet city streets
I'll politely tip my hat
To strangers that I meet
But I only search for food
The liquid that I need
To purge the darkest lust
To satisfy this greed
It hasn't always been this way
I was once like you are now
I long for life again
And I will have it, this I vow
But I don't possess the power
I haven't got the fight
To wrestle with my instinct
In the pale moonlight
Bereft of all that's good
Of all feeling I am numb
I've become as those I loved
Now I must love what I've become
Please never wish for this
For it's not a path I'd choose
So pass or walk my way
It is your life to lose
The morning will arise
And quench the murderous night
I'll quietly make my way
Under the fading lamplight
