He opened up the post, it was a letter, quite a sight
Decree Absolute across the top in black and white
He read it once, and then again, upon his face a smile
He'd have to tell his mates at work, in just a little while
So he spent the day surrounded by his sympathetic friends
O what a catharsis, a real means to all ends
At end of day he made his way back to his blessed house
But no-one else was living there, 'twas quiet as a mouse
And there he sat reflecting, on what had come to pass
Could it have been avoided if he'd got up off his ass
The times he spent just thinking what she got up to every night
The truth? Oh yes, he had his proof, she'd played away alright
They'd had a chance, one final dance, to make their marriage fly
The holiday to Mexico where they gave it one more try
But it didn't really work, it didn't make it better
Hence the reason on this day the post gave him his letter
Had it all been worth it? To make their marriage seem so cheap?
He got drunk on bad red wine and
Cried himself to sleep

@leelee101 ; really touching, I'm sure lots of people will relate. This makes me think of my mum and dad's split and how it could have been avoided if they'd both done certain things!
@PoppyA thank u. I come from a time long ago when mums and dads never ever seemed to split or divorce unless things really were bad. Suppose I just can't really believe how many or how quickly sometimes this kind of thing happens. π
@iPuss no but it's a true story. The fella came in to work telling us about it so I decided to write it. π
@leelee101 life goes on as they say. I've written an earlier opus on the subject. Tells you my feelings on the situation but thanks for asking. π
