I can remember back in the day
When technology wasn't exactly au fait
A personal stereo, the gadget to wear
With headphones that would obscure your hair
A hi-fi system the length of the room
With six foot speakers that just went BOOM
Personal computers as big as your house
No mouse...
Satellite? Cable? No not back then
Three channels we had, stopped at half past ten
And I never thought that I'd survive
The sight of Sir Clive in his Sinclair C5
What's this? A wire attached to your phone
And no you couldn't change your tone
The 'Videostar', the size of a truck
Programming it? Come try your luck
But faded now, like the setting sun
This old technology that was all good fun
You youngsters think it's such old hat
Because, you see, there's an app for that...

@ell oh yes. Simpler, happier days when no-one really seemed to care, stress etc about much except music really. But in did give birth to leg warmers and huge shoulder pads. -shudders- 😉
@glensaggs @DaddyDooDahs remember the video star? You at one end of the room, finger poised over the record button, your dad with his on play, your mum shouting ' ok, now!' KER- CHUNK...
@crowncottage The Ferguson Videostar? The mightiest of all top loading video recorders, which took 3 men to deliver, a team of men in white coats, to install, and Einstein to program? A total work of art, and should be knelt before.. Or maybe not, 'cos there wouldn't be enough room in the house... 😉
@leelee101 oh yes! We were desperate for one but couldn't afford it. I was an adult with kids by then too 😄
True dat! Great poem. I remember all of those things well. Especially the personal stereo that was heavy and came with a fake leather carry strap so you wore it like a shoulder bag. Don't know they're born these days.
This made me chuckle mightily :D. Everything was so new and different then. I still clearly remember a heated family discussion about the merits of VHS over Betamax. Ah, heady days :)
