Waiting

Today was the day that his truest love returns
He wanted to hear all about what she had learnt

She and some friends were backpacking together
He told his sweetheart that he would wait forever

The months passed by with a heaviness in his heart
Although he'd never say, it was tearing him apart

They stayed in touch as much as they both could
It was difficult for him, though he understood

She told him how much she missed being in his arms
He told her to stay safe, not wanting her to come to any harm

Their love remained strong even though the miles were many
But neither of them could think of reasons to end it, not any

When you find the one, who you want to spend all your days
You'll do anything to keep that going, you'll find a way

So they counted down the days that she would return home
They had so many plans, their love had truly grown

So on Christmas eve, she would be returning without hesitation
At 16.44pm, platform 9 at Paddington station

Approaching Paddington she felt a lump forming in her throat
Her hands were shaking and she was fiddling with her coat

For this day should have been one of the happiest in her life
Coming to the station, on this day, was cutting like a knife

With a lost feeling and the tears being held at bay
She picked up her bags and began to make her way

Stepping off the train, platform 9, she glanced up ahead
Her legs felt heavy, inside she was feeling dead

Then through the sea of faces she saw her love stood there
Love shone in his eyes as he smiled and stared

She smiled back and waved to him with tender grace
Not once did he take his eyes away from her sweet face

Then the tears fell from her momentary happy eyes
Sobs were followed by her inconsolable cries

A passer by stopped to ask her if she was alright
She looked up at her love, who vanished out of sight

She knew it couldn't be him, for her love had died
Three months after she left, he was killed on his motorbike

She wiped her tears and picked up her heavy bags and left
Her love remained on platform 9, his love forever kept

Writing has been my friend since a teenager...I laugh, cry, think, pretend, smile as I do it. I feel that I communicate better through my writing as in person I can appear a tad scatty.

Why?

"Look at me". His voice was low. The words came out deliberate and slow. "I don't want to". But she knew that wasn't true. She wanted to stare into his eyes and stay there forever. His hand came out.
