I am not a believer, but I do envy with all my heart the people who do have faith....not the ones who let it rule their lives to the point of wasting it, but the ones who find a real peace because of this faith. The ones who can see love and happiness in everything and everyone. The way I see it is, if they are right and there is life after death then they will reap the benefits, if they are wrong then they will still have that peace within them until their time comes and they depart, and they will never know they were wrong. Whereas people like me who have no faith and no beliefs will only find reward if we are wrong. I'm not trying to start a debate again, just my thoughts on it all. So to all the young children or even the not so young children who are lucky enough to have true faith.....in the words of Bon Jovi "keep the faith"

That's how I feel, putting myself right out there here when I say I'm a believer, I'm not sure in what but in a believer in something more or something magical, just something we can't comprehend coming after 'Life' on earth. Its quite probable that I'm wrong and there is nothing at all, you just die and it's all over. But correct or incorrect these beliefs help me to deal with things in life such as death, some may call it delusion but at the end of the day if I'm happy to live my life with my views and not try to force my way of thinking on anyone else I would hope to be treated with the same respect, That's my outlook anyway. Ps. Most of this will not make much sense, maybe. I just started writing and got carried away π
@patdolan83 don't consider my comment another argument pls just discussing philosophy here. I promise πΌ
@patdolan83 - "not the ones who let it rule their lives to the point of wasting it".... As you wrote. Because all is fine until that line is crossed. A wasted life and all. They would be so fortunate to have you declare when their faith has become to wasteful. Perhaps your insight will allow them to spend time more efficiently. You did write that, yes? Curious, perhaps you too could help me use my time more valuably.
You did say it was fine.. Ok... But to a point, and then it becomes a waste of time... That's where your understanding ends. Interesting.
@jessep15 I'll explain what I meant, but like I said...I was looking to start another argument. I was referring to the people that take life too seriously because they are afraid of going to "hell". So they never live for fear of breaking the rules. I would like to mention that half of my family are religious, they go to church on Sundays and my half sister also helps out a lot at her church I believe. But they also live, they might swear every now and again without going to confession, they might have a few drinks or even hook up with someone they do not intend to marry. I'm sorry if it offends you that I think that some religious (all religions) people are wasting life by not living it, but that's just my opinion, I'm not trying to change them or even looking down at them. At the end of the day it's your life to live in any way you wish. I hope some of that made sense π
@patdolan83 @Stablish @blindsilence @sarahgamal @jessep15 An interesting post! You don't have to believe BTW to appreciate love... As an atheist, any benefit in fooling oneself that a fictitious omnipotent ruler will forgive me my transgressions eludes me... I prefer to accept responsibility for my own actions and for what is proven fact. The fact remains that public funds are spent on educating our next generations with fiction rather than fact, particularly in America, where science is being wilfully ignored...
@Barknbite I wasn't for a second saying that only people have have found God see love in everything, I know people who have no faith but plenty of zest for life. I completely that we should all take responsibility for how our lives are lived and how we find our joy. I live in the UK so I can't really comment on the US school system, but if they are forcing religion onto children (I'm not saying they are) by not educating them correctly about undeniable facts of science, every person should get every chance to choose what they do or don't believe in
@Barknbite I agree with you completely, it's not like I live my life trying to appease to a 'God' I'm not to know if there is a god. I also believe that most organised religions teach fault beliefs. I suppose I'm an atheist to a degree but I still have a underlining belief in a soul or spirit separate from a god. I suppose I best fit in with spiritual beliefs. I don't know really, I just go with the flow and try to act when I see signs if you will. They normally help me move on and to grow as a person so the way I see it why not carry onπππ
