I saw a girl
She had blonde curls
Her eyes were blue
Her nails like pearls
She had a smile
So like a child
Which she was
At least for a while
I looked again that while later
Her hair had grown
It had got straighter
I saw her eyes
Her innocence gone
What had she seen
Before it was done
I shuddered and I looked away
But I came back the next day
And what I saw was quite a sight
Her hair was gray
Her face a fright
It was only then that I could see
I knew that girl
The girl was me
