Inspired by a song called "Hurt" by Johnny Cash & originally by Nine Inch Nails ;-)
You can't take away my pain
You can shift the weight of blame
But I'll still take with me all the hurt
And leave behind an empire of dirt
You can keep your trendy fashionable clothes
I look an uncomfortable mess and I know it shows
But I have travelled well in this old stained shirt
You can walk in my shoes but they'll only lead you to an empire of dirt
Everybody I've ever known and those yet to come
Will be taken from me or me from them when our days are done
And if I suffer now and feel all the pain first
Would it make it easier for you standing upon my empire of dirt?
I do not like any of your collectible heirloom stuff
I cannot take it with me unlike your love
We had some time and good memories that have more worth
But will you remember me well when I leave behind an empire of dirt?
You can pull apart the words that I have wrote
In honesty and affection with love I spoke
And when the time comes for my obituary advert
Would you be kind enough to say: "He died an honest man who left behind an empire of dirt"
