Adapt And Move Forward

People say to me, 'I remember when the binman had to carry a metal bin from your back door to the lorry to empty it and then put it back'

And I say that's fair enough, but the times you remember have changed, now we create more waste than ever before, and if we carried every bin now like we did then, we would never get finished!

To put it into perspective...

I remember having a
Nokia 3210 which was great at the time, but if I attempted to use one today it simply wouldn't fulfil my needs!

We have grown to create more and want more. In order to survive we have to adapt (not conform) until we get what we want!

A bin service is a service, just like any other. Imagine it like a movie rental service. We rent the movie, watch it and then take it back! WE have a responsibility is what I'm trying to say.

The binman does his bit by taking a bin. It's a two way thing!! We don't get paid to sort the refuse out ourselves!

If people did there upmost to fulfil their end of the 'service' oh what a wonderful thing it would be...landfills would start to take less recyclables and they would be collected and sold correctly!!

Less toxic food waste would be in the earth and instead it could be composted to help feed the earth... Just a thought! :) :) :)
Peace and love to all :)

Putting the bin out for the refuse collector is something we should all do it only takes a moment. However some of the points you raised are irrelevant in terms of landfill etc... People do sort their rubbish correctly in the belief that the local council will use it for recycling purposes. Only to find out later that most of it does in fact go to landfill either here in the UK or is sent to some heap in India or Africa and is not recycled at all. This is NOT the fault of the householder. Some does get recycled of course. More waste is recycled now then there ever has been since World War 2. The council sell on the recyclable waste and is paid handsomely for it. The council, despite this new income, then decide to cut back on waste collection to once every two weeks as a cost saving measure AND council tax is increased. Meanwhile festering bins and bin liners full of waste attract vermin, flies, disease, foxes and so on. More people are employed to deal with these issues. Neighbourhood Officers (basically employees of the council who think they are the police because they wear a hi-viz jacket) start knocking on people's doors and are threatening householders with ridiculous fines and court action because their back yard is a mess and is attracting vermin.

A very good blog and I agree everyone should do their bit ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘

Blind silence I acknowledge your comments completely, I agree the council do make a handsome profit, when it is sorted correctly! And thankfully there are a large minority that are amazing at sorting and couldn't do more! I feel thy the council could do more with these kind if people to show their thanks! My borough has an incentive scheme in place, but as always in our society it seem to go amiss when informing people ie residents on how to use it correctly! Unfortunately there is still so much that gets missed though... Flats, new build houses, schools. The list goes on! I must start being more proactive and hopefully the people I encounter will see that what they so is beneficial and carry on! I talk with my customers all the time and try to advise and praise as much as possible! People DO want to do their bit but DON'T like being told how to! Lol it's a bit of a vicious circle really but the more awareness the better and hopefully more positive awareness will help to make a change for good, even for those who wish to oppose the system! I apologise for any spelling mistakes as I have true to explain as honestly as possible :)

Also blind silence I'm not sure what scheme your local council runs or who the waste provider is but I'm sure any ideas or comments will be appreciated! Most town halls or councils Hold open meetings to allow residents to give their opinions and also learn about policy's in place eg bin collections etc :)

@tubbritt2012 This is really good and makes you think. I am very aware of what goes into land fill and how it is not possible to sustain. It seems to me one of the keys is DON'T keep buying all the stuff. We never used to have all this cheap stuff to buy. Ask yourself do I need it, do I want it, what will I do with it when I have it and very important what will I do with it when I don't need it any longer. We all need to be responsible. All of us! โœจ๐ŸŒŸโœจ๐ŸŒŸ
