Buildings surround what was once open spaces.
Houses and homes bring new interesting faces.
And I stand just a little bit taller.
Than the first girl I kissed when I was two feet smaller.
Fingers grew long, tips hurt and blister.
Went from young man, to being called Sir and Mister.
My face now grows hundreds of hairs I erase when I shave.
I learnt some restraint, but I still misbehave.
And it happens so swift.
The way that things shift.
And it's a little bit strange.
The way that things...
change.
Pocket money used to buy sugary sweets.
Now folded notes buy more hazardous treats.
Pop turned to rock, and then rock went and died.
Self proclaimed players went and married their brides.
Late night talks turned into informal texts.
It's a little bit sad, a little hard to accept.
Eyes formed narrow, short hair now worn longer.
Traded a ball for weights, and grew a little bit stronger.
And it happens so swift.
The way that things shift.
And it's a little bit strange.
The way that things change.
Short letters now come electronically.
But old sheets of paper still try hard to comfort me.
Kids I would roam with, now have kids of their own.
They're so peculiar, like miniature clones.
The dog that would follow me went to live on a farm.
I loved that mutt, even when he went for my arm.
Toothpicks turned to cancer sticks that stain designer wallpaper.
White walls today, no doubt they'll change later.
And it happens so swift.
The way that things shift.
And it's a little bit strange.
The way that things change.
Short trees shot up and mask the setting sun.
I glimpse the edges before my work is done.
The same boy who used to share my hair gel.
Cut off his curls and lives his days in a cell.
And the same girl who stole sweets from my drawer.
Lives in the states, practicing law.
The same guitar that was difficult and large.
Rests light on my thigh and lets me take charge.
And it happens so swift the way that things shift.
Old wooden stairs replaced with glass lifts.
Saving small change, to smooth paper tips.
Walks to the city, to far away trips.
And it confuses my brain, the way that things change.
And it's a little bit funny...
A little bit strange.
