No Thimble Full Of Hours

Stop a moment..
Wait and hush -
Do you hear the steady rush
Of seconds fleeting...
Burning up?
I try to scoop them in my cup;
Moments dribble
From my eyes...
No time for tears.
Don't sympathise!
Just catch the minutes
In your hand
For where were all those
Things we'd planned?
All gone and flown
And come to dust.
The golden years
Now dulled with rust.

So stop me
As I try to keep
Those precious seconds
Till we sleep.
Don't let me claw back
At the years
Those warm remembered atmospheres.
Don't let me fear,
Become secluded
As though to hide
From time, deluded.
Let it run,
Let all things pass
Life slip like sunlight
Through new glass.
Time can't be tamed
Or frozen, stored.
Let's live a life
The stars applaud.
