I have a heart that's made of stone,
It's not a fragile thing.
Once upon a time it was whole,
It's stone from too much breaking.
It plush red surface, hardened,
Its once-soft beating: still,
And now that it is made of stone,
It won't change back at will.
I have a heart that's made of stone,
Granite: it won't crack,
It got this way from lovelessness:
Love is what I lack.
I have a heart that's not quite right,
A void within my chest,
And it will stay so very still,
Till when I'm laid to rest.
My heart is throbbing suddenly,
It feels as though it tries-
To suddenly turn flesh once more,
A pain makes way: arise.
Your love is breaking through my stone,
It's tearing at my seams,
I'd never thought I'd hear my heart-
Beat in my furthest dreams.
