A Godless World

Is it really a good thing to deny the existence of any higher power at all.
After having a lively debate with a "friend" I am starting to think it isnt.
The reason why I put "friend in brackets is because it is the same person who my dark post "demons" is about. (it's a complicated friendship)
We were on the subject of religion
And he started saying how "science has disproven god" and "You have to be crazy to believe in a man in the sky" I know completely cliche way of disproving a higher power.
It's not like I'm religious, I've never been christened and don't follow any particular faith but still whenever I here someone disprove something with such a simple answer it always makes me mad. The first reason is, I used to think like that until I started looking into science myself and came across some of the more fringe subjects like Partical acceleration, string theory and many other mind boggling discoverys. These things led me to other subjects like time travel, psychic powers and eventually some important truths that I think everybody should learn them selfs.
If anything this put me off religion even more knowing how it had been used to mislead people and control them. But I didn't stop in my search for truth and carried on I started looking into all religions old and new and relised that they are all based on simular beliefs. This was the moment when I thought that perhaps god and science could be one in the same thing, well everything is and everyone is on a microscopic level.
Anyway I've gone off point a bit but what I'm trying to say is don't be so quick to write of some of the mysteys in life because if you take time to look into things you will find more answers than you think are out there.
I find my "friend" who disproves god so quickly is finding himself stuck in life making the same mistakes over and over again. He is also so negative about pretty much every situation and hates pretty much hates everybody.
I have tried talking to him countless times about it but he always changes the subject and makes some other stupid comment. I suppose the reason I have such an open mind is because this man is my polar opposite and most days he comes up with plenty of silly comments which always make me glad I took the time to look into things myself instead of just listening to someone else blindly.

The irony, I know him preaching about the silliness of believing completely in what someone says as truth, when I guaranty he picked up that view from tv, music or film and listened, followed and believed without looking any further into it.
This person who disbelieves in god just seems to not be bothered by all the sadness in the world. Somedays he's sat there taking the piss out of children starving to death on the adverts and I just feel so upset that his heart has appeared to have gone with his faith.
Sorry if this made no sense at all this is a reply for my friend @DaddyDooDahs which got out of control. If you are like my "friend" please take the time to look for answers for yourself and read it again it might make more sense then.

Thanks for reading

Well said! I'm not religious in any way and I don't really believe there's "a man in the sky" but I guess we all need that "greater power" to turn to when needed. Whether it be aliens, magic or just hope. Better than denial, I guess.

@ZuperZed Yeah too right. denial destroys you from the inside. Believe in what makes you happy and gives you the inspiration to live to the fullest.

@Stablish Amen! :)

@ZuperZed @Stablish Belief in the higher power is necessary since we don't know what the future holds for us

@Stablish I always think it's sad when anybody says 'a man in the sky' they show their ignorance. When you actually look into it you find, as you did, that it's not so easily dismissed. I too have no actual religion but I am certain there is much more to life than we can explain that easily. One of my first Opuss posts was on this subject, my conversation was long before you were born.

@crowncottage As soon as I finish work I will check it out, I don't know what it is exactly but I'm convinced in life after death, thanks for the comment, look forward to reading your post.😊

@jaykhalil It helps me, that's all I know for sure.😊

@Stablish so am I, I have spent a long time on the subject and no one will convince me that life ends with death. It has changed the person I am now, when you believe life continues it helps put everything in perspective.

@crowncottage Me saying "a man in the sky" is not ignorance but simply lack of other ways to put it. For all I know, it might even be a woman. ;) Respect my (dis)beliefs as I respect yours but don't try to force them on me. Thank you!

@ZuperZed you are right, I don't try to force my beliefs on anyone. We all follow our own paths and I respect everyone else's beliefs even if I don't agree with them. I think though that if there is a greater power it wouldnt be a man or woman in the sky.

@Stablish the post I mentioned is only about me talking all night to friends about the possibility of Jesus being a spaceman :)

@crowncottage Thanx for respecting even if you don't agree. There are a lot of people who can't do that. My way or the highway mentality. I'm glad you're not one of them... ;)

@ZuperZed no, I know when a lot of people get old they think they are always right, I hate that. I have made enough mistakes in my life to know I have no reason to feel superior to anyone. Good luck with journey, I am still struggling through mine ;)

@crowncottage Fair enough. Good luck to you too! ;)

May I refer you to a Chapter/Book of the Bible called JOB chapter 38,where GOD nearly had to BOAST to JOB. But it wasn't a boast,it was GOD stating the obvious about interesting things he'd done that we think are Mysterious.

@boashman i didnt understand what you just wrote

@TommyWalsh lol, That's ok😊 It was just something I had to get of my chest.

@TommyWalsh oh lol, you said boashman

@TommyWalsh Hi,Basically in the Bible THE BOOK OF JOB is about a man called JOB.He was the Wealthiest in the West. That will translate as the Richest Man in the World of today. Perspective-wise. Then it was said that he was a Righteous&God fearing man. Then the Devil went at him and he lost everything. Yet he was still God fearing, but being Human as we do faced with adversity we start questioning things and of course JOB did also. However,in Job Chapter 38,verses 1-End.God answered Job with several questions for him to ponder, and that Chapter made me Ponder too. Check it out briefly if you don't have a Bible@ biblegateway.com

@RichWithey Thanks mate, It just annoys me sometimes when people say something is false when they have no real argument to back it up. From personal experience, and I'm only 24. There have been way to many strange coincidences in my life and it makes me believe that life isn't as simple as we're told. To be honest your one of them lol. I had a good friend at school called Rich white, he had the exact same "superdry" T-shirt and always wore a beanie just like yours. You look similar as well. When I first saw you on here I thought "no way it can't be" I was convinced you were him for a day lol Started rambling a bitπŸ˜‰ To sum up, basically I Don't know what happens after you die, neither do you, just believe what makes you happy. But if you don't believe anything and your clearly unhappy perhaps you have to look inside yourself and start asking what you truly believe in. I would never force my views on anyone, they probably wouldn't listen anyway, my beliefs are pretty unique, but I supposes that's the point.

Ps. 200 words got a bit OTT lol

not "you" as in you. It was meant to be an open statement, It sounds like I'm forcing something on you like that.πŸ˜‰@RichWithey

I'm

I'm not religious myself at all, but I do not believe that we can discount everything based on science, considering how many break throughs have come about which disprove earlier theory. Science allows us to explain some of the mysteries of the world, but not everything has been discovered or proven/disproven. Interestingly, there are some people who believe in a higher power that are also accepting of advances in modern science. I think this is healthy. The only thing I have issue with is those who take the bible as the truth and claim that it's proof god exists and dinosaurs didn't. This is just narrow minded. Most holy books were written prior to modern science, so they couldn't have known at the time half of what we know now. This doesn't mean it's directly falsehood, nor does it mean that the science is irrelevant. Anyway, I may not be making much sense but those are my thoughts on it

@shanwan That makes perfect scene to me, I am one of the people who embrace both, because from what I've seen they both help answer each others deeper questions. Personally I think god is a part of everything. We're all connected on a base level, because we are all made of the same building blocks. I recommend you look into the microscopic world if you already haven't. Some strange things happen when you look at the smallest parts of life. Ditto what you just said I'm not sure if this will make sense.πŸ˜‰

@Stablish nope that all makes sense too! I think I'll do a bit of research into that, I love learning about the weird and wonderful! I'd say my personal beliefs gear towards ancient alien theory, which some people may see as outlandish, but the evidence is overwhelming, there are even references in holy texts that could be attributed to the theory. Worth looking into :)

@crowncottage I'm not sure that ignorance is the right word to describe someone who uses the term 'a man in the sky' or 'men from the skies' since that is the wording from a lot of ancient cultures who reference their god(s)

@shanwan you may be right although just because it is wording from ancient cultures doesn't make it automatically correct. I see God as a life force, not something in the shape of a man, despite what the bible says. Incidentally, the bible was written by other men, I believe some of it but not every word written there.

@shanwan I agree, It was the start of a great journey you won't regret it.πŸ˜ƒ

@crowncottage yeah I think that's wise. It's good to draw your own thoughts and conclusions from your beliefs, it's what helps shape you!

@shanwan yes, I believe the important thing is to keep an open and curious mind. One thing I am sure of though is that some of the ancient religions understood far better than modern civilization does, I think it's because they found the answers through nature, our biggest problem is that we try to explain all things through science.

Brilliant :)

@elf_girl Thank you, and thanks for reading😊
