We talk so little
I didn't realize
How different and
Disconnected we are

We're strangers
Living in a shelter
Not a home
Filled with happiness

Everyone else hears
But I listen
To the creak of doors
To unheard voices

Everyone else ignores
But I notice
Are you sad or mad?
How was school?

Everyone else pretends
As if nothing else matters
But them
And their world

I live in a mimicry of reality
Where everything matters
Where you are noticed
Where you are loved

This shelter
I wish was a home
If only, if only
You cared at all

Not connected
Not a family
Only a group of beings
In anonymity

All because you hear
Not listen
Not notice
Not care about anything except you

But I listen
And I will fix
All the you neglected
With independence and pride

Autopilot

On The Midnight Phone

Staying up late with you, Is like looking up at the night sky, Our words outnumber the stars, Each syllable is a plane, And it flies like a blue bird, That's fat on worms.

Not 'Family' Yet.

Feeling kind of blue, I see you on the bed, Mother and my sister, Lying head-to-head. Enjoying time and laughing, Smiles and grins alight, Inside my chest my heart constricts: It suddenly feels tight.

Drifting Apart

Why does my daughter try to avoid me all the time. It's not that easy to explain this in rhyme. She is 16 and has lived with her mother for 5 years. When we lived together there were often tears.

For Once

"I'm proud of you. Have I ever told you that?". My thoughts say once. My eyes stare back. You break down. I've seen you do it. So many times. Its truly sad. I lend my hand. You give it a squeeze.

Hey

Hey you, where've you been. Quite a while since I've seen. Your face around my neighbourhood. Give me a call, if you would. It's ages since that winter walk. When we had our final talk.
