Still smiling over my victory of not messing everything with this guy up, I sang with utmost vigor whatever song Mr. Andrews wanted us to sing. We were an elite singing group, with a very large repertoire, and it was important to perfect each piece.
"Alright, guys, we're going to do Vox in Rama, now," Mr. Andrews announced. "For this one, I want you to mix up the parts. Stand next to someone who is not apart of your voice part. Alright, go!"
I turned around, looking for someone to stand next to. I debated standing next to Carrie, who is an alto in our group.
Immediately, Jason, a bass, caught my attention.
"Here, stand next to me," he invited, pointing to the spot to his left.
"Alright," I shrugged, taking the spot, trying to mask my excitement.
He grinned. "This is good. This is a good situation. Except...we're probably gonna butcher the song."
I laughed, nodding my agreement.
"Mr. Andrews!" A shrill alto voice yelled out. "The sopranos didn't mix, like at all!"
"Um, I'm pretty good, thank you!" I called back. "I'm next to someone who--"
"Emily," Mr. Andrews' said. "Go over there."
He pointed to a spot completely away from Jason.
In my head, my brain was like, "WHAT? I FOLLOWED DIRECTIONS AND YOU'RE MAKING ME MOVE?"
But I took a step forward to walk away, when a warm arm wrapped around my shoulders.
For just a split second, Jason held me back from moving, before, arm still around me, guiding me to my new spot.
My face became red hot, both from annoyance and pleasure. I didn't want to move...but if I hadn't...
I noticed sourly that an alto happily took my spot next to him.
"Not fair," I thought, as Mr. Andrews began to conduct the basses in their part. "Not fair."

Writing is my life. Forever. I want to be an author when I grow up. I write all the time. When I'm happy, sad, angry...it's an escape. Oh, and I love green hearts. I absolutely love them.
