I have a little songbird
Encased inside my heart
I let it free to fly and sing
Whenever we're apart
It sends up soft and yellow notes
That drift along the breeze
They dance against the clear-blue sky
And weave among the trees
Piercing notes lift up my soul
So I float in the sky
Just like my little songbird friend
That dips and dives on high
Carrying my heart with it
It never lets it go
Aflitter in the clear free air
It swoops it high and low
I have a little songbird
I keep it in my heart
And let it out to quell the tears
I shed when we're apart.
