Just An Observation

This is just an observation, so please don't judge. I've been on here a couple of weeks now and am absolutely blown away with the talent. Initially I just wanted to read read read but hey I dived in and had a ago and amazingly some folk like it. But what I have noticed is that you really have to scroll scroll scroll to see some new talent lurking down the rankings. Why are very popular authors with many followers being reposted. It just seems to block up the list for those at the bottom who are new or have little followers. Perhaps @seamonster there should be an introducing tab for newcomers. I only say this as it was sad to read yesterday that an author felt the need to leave as no one was recognising anything they had written.
As I say just an observation

Day 2 In The House Of Opuss

Right, so two (or possibly three; I can't quite remember) poems later, I've decided that even though I haven't actually had much feedback on my work yet, that actually I quite like this.

Wow! Thank You!

Recently I posted the Opuss "please like and share" I am happy to announce that after this (or maybe just great coincidence) the number of second-hand quotes and old jokes has gone down massively.

Hi ya, I re-post out of recognition, and some who follow me may not follow others and vice versa. I try to find the new talented writers, it's quite hard trying to keep up with the ones I'm following at the moment tho.

As with @smellyfingers, I do similar. I think however, that changes could be made. For instance, if you're already following someone, then it's frustrating when their post reappear over & over via reposts. Also, if there was a way you could source all new 'joiners' that would be useful. Then, you could read/follow their work for a while, to see whether it's the kind of writer you'd like to follow. I appreciate there's a filter system on the 'Find' section, but this also throws up establish authors, who can clearly be found by scanning Top 100 for instance. Difficult one I know, but in essence I understand what you're saying! 😌

You are right in what you say, but a repost is out of recognition as @smellyfingers said. But people repost what they like ? Its hard enough to keep up with all the posts as it is. I put on a joke yesterday and it has been reposted today, I've seen stuff that has been repost that is as old as a week. Its all down to what people write πŸ‘

And what people like πŸ‘

@smellyfingers @Fly10 sorry I problem didn't I explain myself well. I totally get the recognition bit but is that not what th like button is for. I've reposted stuff like today@TheViolator that I thought was good but hadn't had much recognition. I just don't get reporting stuff that's already ranked high. But I agree with Fly10 you could filter new authors. πŸ‘πŸ‘

I think perhaps the repost was originally designed, in order that people could share new work they spotted with their followers. I agree with what you say though, thats perhaps open to abuse by constant reposting. Don't know what could be done to strike a balance tho? For instance, if I read a piece from a new author & 'like' it, I'd still want to be able to share it via repost. Perhaps it could be that first 20pieces can be reposted, or only authors outside top 100? Just a few possible suggestions πŸ˜‰

I totally get what you're saying and it can be frustrating. I find lots of new members thru re-posting of other members I'm following. There will always be various clique groups in a community, I don't know what the answer is mate but it's a very good point you have raised. Hopefully the bosses with have a solution in an update. Btw some of the best writers on opuss only get a few likes and comments ect. I think it's a personal thing; I'm not too keen on stories for example.

@smellyfingers @Fly10 @TheViolator I try to not repost something that has already been reposted. And I try to not repost things that are fresh. I generally repost if it's a few hours old and it doesn't have the love it deserves. My little way of reducing the traffic I guess

@ckahn Unless something blows me away, I tend to do the same. If I've already 'liked' it & can see its been reposted by someone I'm already following, then I usually don't RP again😌

@ckahn πŸ‘@smellyfingers sadly there will always be cliques in any walk of life but they always end in tears 😒 thanks for the debate guys.

@ckahn that sounds like a good idea, a way to slow the reposts down πŸ‘

@eddie12309 well said and I agree πŸ‘πŸ˜˜

@gazplend thank you 😊

Wow! Makes sense... I have reported a few because I like it. I think it's good to recognise talent this way. Sometimes the repost doesn't work though. Really not interested in the ranking, some seem intent on being at the top. Not for me, I like what I write and share, love getting feedback. Not sure what the rank means, certainly doesn't indicate best writers... New talent, and I'm new here too, is something I look for everyday, my time is limited though, lucky I'm an insomniac... I'm glad I came across you... Please give more observations...

Sorry... Reposted... Apple Syndrome... :(

@Barknbite I wrote this a while ago when there used to me another member who has now since been removed. Her work and reporting of it used to totally clog up any feed. But thankfully this is now not the case and long may it continue. πŸ‘
