Love is such a simple word,
Yet so difficult to define;
It can bring about such joy and pain;
It tastes both bitter and divine.
The love a mother has for a child,
Is both unconditional and secure,
But what if that child turns against her,
Will that love stay honest and true?
Love can ignite a passionate desire;
A burning understanding from deep within;
It can also light the kindling of jealousy.
Will it smoulder or catch fire and win?
Love is an all consuming force;
When unexpected will swallow you whole.
Leaving you reeling in its powerful wake;
Surprised by your lack of control.
But when its slowly drip fed,
Bite by glorious bite;
You savour each and every segment,
Relish in amours delight.
As fast as it came it can fade away,
Rust and corrode over time;
It can break a heart into a million pieces,
The ultimate compassionate crime.
But love through a child's eyes,
Is as simple as one plus two;
Love and compassion are our greatest gifts,
Because who being loved is poor?
