Dear Mum,

This year I'll be careful,
Won't make you stay up late,
Whilst I'm out and you're worrying,
I'll try not to make you wait.

This year I'll try harder,
I won't make such a fuss,
I'll make you all the tea you want,
When I know it's only us.

This year we'll be happy,
We'll make time for we two,
I think we can do well this year,
We'll make ourselves up new.

I'll visit by you daily, Mum,
And even though you're cold,
Ten feet underground won't stop,
Our family growing old.

But I'll cook for Dad and Bethany,
I'll clean, I'll wash, I'll try,
And when the world weighs down on me,
I'll make sure I don't cry.

Dark Dreams

"Hush now. You're Safe." He whispered calmly in my ear. " You're home, in bed, with me." I turned to look in the familiar dark eyes and slowly calmed my panted breath. Thank God he's here.
