Swearing: A Philosophy

NOTE: This isn't actually a philosophy. This is just my opinion plus hopefully a few good points.

So I was wondering; why are some people so against swearing? It's not like it hurts anyone. And to be honest, it doesn't really make you look stupid either. Not as stupid as if you were calling someone a "donut". Seriously though, why are there a set of words that are not acceptable in society. Chances are, you're not going to offend anyone any more by swearing at them than if you called them a stupid rat-faced idiot! And also, why do kids always get absolutely slaughtered for swearing whereas adults do it most of the time the kids are gone? There's no point trying to cover up words if the kids going to grow up to say them anyway. I know it's the same with me.
So does anyone agree/disagree with this? Or maybe you have a different opinion?

I couldn't give a shit

Swear words in the cases I think you were referring to, are used as an insult or to show displeasure at a person or event. I would imagine that sometime in the past some ruler or leader decided that to stop insubordination certain words would be made taboo. Over the years this practice was indoctrinated into us and more words were added to the list. In more recent years, say the past 60 years, language has evolved to the point that we use these 'taboo' words everyday and not always as an insult or in a derogatory fashion. We use them to emphasise a certain point of view and so on. Language has evolved and we have many more freedoms now than ever before. Of course, this could all be bullshit.

I don't have a problem with swearing. But I don't particularly like A. To hear children swear or have to listen to people swearing persistsntly when little kids are around. That's just me.

I wonder who invented swear words?
