There was a certain urgency portrayed in his heartless yet desperate words,
"Please leave." There on his bed, laid his girlfriend, her white t-shirt around her neck and her short, red bodycon skirt strewn messily over HIS study chair. Scrambling around for their clothing, she ran speedily out of the room, avoiding confrontation as usual. Grunting in distaste, he swiped the dirty bed sheets off the bed and laid on his bare mattress. He grasped his iPhone in his hand tightly and speed-dialled his best friend, Daniel.
"Hello?" said Stephen into the phone.
"Hey Steve! What's up?" replied his friend, cheerfully.
"Mary cheated on me."
"What the hell? The whore! Dude, we need to get wasted!" demanded Danny.
"Where should we meet?"
"I'll pick you up in five from your house, cool?"
"Cool." Slamming down his phone in anger he ripped off his silk Austin Reed tie that his ex-girlfriend Mary had bought for him. Furiously ripping off the buttons from his shirt he remembered the first time he'd seen Mary. Her gorgeous blond hair and bright sapphire eyes had overthrown him and he had immediately approached her, starting his conversation with the clichΓ© chat-up line,
"You see this," pointing at the silk covering his wrist, "It's boyfriend material." Smiling up at the tall yet handsome man in front of her, she replied nonchalantly,
"I have a boyfriend." Replying nanoseconds later he said,
" And I have a maths test." Confused she raised her eyebrows, "And so?"
"I thought we were naming things we could cheat on." Intrigued by the smooth-talking man in front of her they had broken the ice and spoken consistently until they made their separate ways home both grasping notes of each other's numbers.
