As he watched the Jubilee
Upon his black and white TV
He thought on what had passed before
Starting when he fought a war
As soldier, nation's hopes he carried
Then in the 50's, young man married
Lovely Liz became his wife
To have, to hold, for rest of life
60's came, rock 'n' roll!
Civvy street, working role
Factory job, never funny
At least it bought them weekly money
Seventy seven, a jubilee
Celebrations for all to see
And they saluted our dear queen
With a gusto hardly seen
80's came, computers too
For factory man, all so new
90's bringing older age
Time to leave the working stage
And with the naughties came the news
That with disease his wife he'd lose
He took it all as part of life
That one day he may lose his wife
Then spent a decade on his own
Kept his chin up, never moaned
And in the present, on TV
The Bloody Diamond Jubilee
Celebrations left him cold
Afraid, alone, frail and old
Having kept them all these years
Suddenly sprang forth floods of tears
For Liz, his one and only queen
Whose jubilee was never seen
