Dark Water

She wakes with the familiar pain
In her body
In her heart
Why did she let him down again?
He said she needs to
Make a start

She must
SHE MUST
Try harder
To make him feel secure
It's HER fault he
lost his temper
He says if only she
Loved him more

She must not
MUST NOT
Make him jealous
But she really didn't know
That he would lose control
Just because she said
Hello

To his best friend as he
Greeted her
She thought that was
Only polite?
I'm a bad person
I'm a BAD PERSON
For spoiling another night

He says she must
MAKE CHANGES
That she really does not
need her friends
You've got me
He says
YOU'VE GOT ME
And only on him
Must she depend

He says her family
Interfere
He DOES NOT
Want them around
Once or twice a year
Maybe, so long as they're
In the background

He says she must make
more effort, make
MORE EFFORT
To keep herself in trim
Lose some weight
Change her hair
To prove herself
To him

She forced him away
You see
YOU SEE
Into the arms of another
He says she really
needs to work on
being a better lover

A shadow of her
Former self
Stripped bare from
All his lies
Not sure of when she
Lost herself
Each day part
Of her dies

Devoid of hope, still
Craving his love
She took her own advice
Walked into dark water..
Weights carried her down-
The ultimate sacrifice.

The note wrapped and written
So perfectly, the strength she found somehow
To write the words, to have
the final say
'Do you love me now?'

Abuse - The Points Of Veiw

Danielle I walk to Harrison's house. I can hardly believe that in such an ordinary house such things can go on. But I love him, and what is pain in the face of love.

Stunning write Leigh. The possessive, controlling jealous man... Wonder how scarily accurate this piece is to many women. Awesome. 👍👏👏😘

Thank you Lee. Partly written from experience (not mine-my Mum) & it's frightening how quickly it can happen, & how the cycle begins. I'm sure there are men in similar situations too, but just wrote this from what I know😔 Appreciate comments as always 😌😘

@leelee101 Forgot to tag you-doh! Also, you read it before I edited & added last paragraph(speedy!) In your opinion, is it better with or without? Designed to portray that despite her desperation & perception that there's no other way out, a tiny part of her still wants him to love her. A mix of 'look what you've done-is this enough for you now?" and " but DO you love me?" Does that make sense? Just not sure whether it's better without it or not?

@leelee101 Forgot to tag you on my reply😝😘

Stunning write Leigh! I hate this controlling, insecure and jealous bullying crap. I'd say it's pretty common altho not many would admit to it as the partner pushes the other further down into depression and fill them with guilt. It's a tough subject and good that you tackle it. 😘

This is stunning. Really felt the emotion. As a little twist you could use the words in capitals to form another sentence running through it. Just an idea I had when reading it. Love it💚💚

Excellent and so spot on! Sad fact that relationships like this are rampant 😔 it's a shame she let him kill her 😢

@eddie12309 I thought that too with the capital letters, I thought maybe they would be like a message/twist

This hit a nerve for me...a powerfully emotive, heartbreaking write...well done lovely lady😘😘😘😘

Superbly written and so true, it can also happen the other way round as well, really good ☕☕☕☕☕

Horrid that people can be so insecure as to do this to their partner. Really emotive, brilliantly written and scarily relatable. 💚

Well written and full of emotion hun, and I agree with@glen it can be the other way one of my brothers had a gf exactly like this thankfully he woke up! 💞❇

I have had two friends suffer like this. They try to fight it but end up believing that it really is their fault! 😿

Very poignant and powerful piece. A window into how one may feel as their identity is slowly dismantled. 👏😥💐

@smellyfingers @eddie12309 Thanks for comments & great minds definitely think alike!😉 I had the exact same idea re making sentence from capitals, but when I started it, I ended up focusing more on making sentence fit, than on actual subject matter. Due to time constraints this morning, I decided to concentrate on the latter instead. Maybe next time! 😉😘

@ckahn Thank you. It's inspired by my own experiences growing up, & seeing the effect my dad had over my mum. Not pleasant, but we all got through it. The need to write of it arises from time to time..😔 😘

@crowncottage That's exactly it. Often the women (or indeed men) affected, appear confident & self assured..& yet they are reduced to someone with no confidence or self esteem. It seems to be a steady & calculates process, whereby they often don't realise it's happening. By then, it's too late😔 Thanks for your comments x

Tragic writing, the emotion was portrayed perfectly😢👌

@sjw @glen Thanks for your comments, & yes, I did make reference in an earlier comment to the fact that it can affect men too. I think often they find it harder to talk about too, due to pride & the perception that they may be considered 'weak'. It's tragic that resources to support victims are subject to such dramatic cutbacks at the moment 😔

@naaviie Thanks for your comment. Unfortunate that's it's all too commonplace 😔 Hopefully speaking about it can help address the problem, particularly as I mention above, resources to support victims are being cut all the time. Thanks for reading 😘

Brilliant Fly... Loved your angle! 😍😘😍

@misslittleDHP Inspired from events experienced growing up...not pleasant😔 I'd like to say in glad you could relate, but doesn't seem appropriate does it? Thanks for your supportive comment lady ❤😘😘

@Stablish Thanks for your comment-always appreciated. So glad it came across the way I was hoping 😌

@DaddyDooDahs Thanks lovely-comments always appreciated 😊😘😘

Ever so sad. The last stanza just hits you. Powerful write.

@Fly10 wow that's beautifully written, extremely dark and powerful 🌹👏 it's a shame when this happens to people close to you, it's even worse when you feel there helplessness 😔 and can't do anything till they do

@minxyMolly The helplessness as an onlooker is so heartbreaking-you're right. I remember as a child feeling that way😔 But as they say, hopefully what doesn't kill you makes you stronger😌 Thanks for your comments-really appreciated 😌💚💗💜

@Nom I'm glad you said that-I edited it 5mins after posting to add that, as just didn't seem to end quite the way I wanted 😌

@fly10 this is beautifully written.

@majida Thank you. Appreciate you taking the time to read & comment 😌
